About the Program

Counseling Psychology master program aims to train specialist psychological counselors who can provide the Counseling Psychology field with effective services. This program enhances the theoretical and practical competence of individuals who will serve in the field of guidance and counseling, with training in areas such as school psychological counseling, family counseling, mental health psychological counseling and career counseling. Providing high-quality service in light of contemporary education understanding and ethical principles, this program makes important contributions to both the academic and personal development of its students. Counseling Psychology master program is based on the applications of the national and international standards, based on student-centered and contemporary education understanding that always respects ethical rules and principles.

Education Opportunities

In the Counseling Psychology master program, in addition to the compulsory courses in education, many elective courses are offered to help students keep up with today's conditions. In the program, there are many courses with options in group and individual psychological counseling; child abuse, cognitive behavioral therapies, family counseling, scientific research methods and other related areas. The program offers the widest range of educational opportunities for students to develop themselves towards becoming a specialist.
Theoretical lectures in the program are carried out classrooms with technological equipment where interactive boards are used, the practical courses are held in the psychological counseling laboratory which has suitable facilities for supervision studies. Our students have the opportunity to benefit from the university library which has a large number of electronic and printed publications for students’ projects, assignments and research.

Career Areas

Counseling Psychology master program graduates can work as psychological counselors in educational institutions, special education institutions, pre-school education institutions, as well as rehabilitation centers, psychological counseling centers of universities and human resources departments of companies. Students who have completed our graduate program can also open their own offices to work as specialist psychological consultants if they wish. Our students, while carrying on to the graduate program of Counseling Psychology, they also conduct scientific researches related to the field, make publications and participate in symposiums and conferences related to the field. Our graduates progress in their careers by taking positions in associations, non-governmental or governmental organizations to offer their professional services.

This course aims to improve students' knowledge, skills and attitudes about how students will try to solve a problem using a scientific method by first giving students a scientific perspective on life and events, with a general aim, guidance and psychological counseling. In the content of the course; science, scientific method and research etc. basic concepts, problem finding and expression in research, hypothesis writing, literature search techniques Research models and data collection techniques are included.

The overall objective of this course is to help develop statistical literacy, to understand the research used in statistical operations and to use descriptive and descriptive statistics in their research. In this course, students will follow the following processes: Basic concepts of statistics and application of basic concepts to teaching, parametric and nonparametric techniques used in social sciences. Teaching these techniques using SPSS (statistic for social sciences) package program will gain skills in interpreting the outputs of SPSS package program.

The students conduct the research subjects approved by the Graduate School Administrative Board in the supervision of the advisor faculty. The dissertation prepared is evaluated by the jury of three instructors. Thesis students need to contribute to the field of Guidance and Psychological Counseling. To collect and analyze the results obtained by using a scientific research method selected in the field of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, to make the scientific research report and write it in the form of a scientific research report by interpreting previous and similar research results and their own comments. Within this scope; researching the related books, articles and materials, scientific research methods, data collection techniques, analysis of data, description and interpretation of findings, writing of thesis in scientific research report.

Students who are interested in pursuing advanced graduate studies leading to a master’s, doctoral degree, or professional doctorate degree for the Fall and Spring semesters every year. Applicants can directly apply online to our graduate programs using the application portal.
