CIU students renewed their summer activities with renewable energy

Certificates awarded to students who participated in the CIU "Renew Your Summer with Renewable Energy" activities

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering Program faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Keyvan Bahlouli and Asst. Prof. Dr. Neyre Tekbıyık Ersoy created and coordinated the Sustainable Energy Projects (SCAP: Sustainable Capstone Projects) program and awarded certificates to students who participated in this project.

The activity was held in the 2023-2024 summer term based on the theme "Renew Your Summer with Renewables (RYS-RE)" was organized for students staying on the island during the summer to spend their time more productively and more actively.

Bahlouli, one of the project coordinators, stated that students from different Engineering departments took part in the activity and stated that the participants were interested in electronics, mechanics, plastics, etc. in accordance with the nature of the SCAP program. He stated that they designed projects using waste materials.

Noting that the activity was carried out with the support of CIU Faculty of Engineering, Campus Directorate and Project and Technical Affairs Directorate, Bahlouli said that as a result of the activity, He also underlined that prototype projects operating with resources like sun, wind, water, etc. were produced.

In his statement, Ersoy stated that they launched a new application called "Student Academy" specifically for the RYS-RE activity and that this application allows the exchange of information between students about software in different engineering fields.

Stating that they received very positive feedback from students about the studies carried out within the scope of the SCAP program in both the 2022-2023 spring semester and the 2022-2023 summer semester, Ersoy said, “Students generally learned teamwork better, and since the groups consisted of students from different disciplines, they were more creative in solving the problems they encountered. They also stated their awareness about different renewable energy sources have increased and have had the opportunity to do practical work."

Ersoy stated that the program had very positive effects on the students, and concluded  that have decided with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahlouli  to continue the SCAP program in the 2023-2024 Fall semester.
