Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri published a message on the July 20th Peace and Freedom Day
Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Nuri responsible from Special Education Teaching Department in the Faculty of Education, at Cyprus International University (CIU), published a message within the scope of the July 20th Peace and Freedom Day.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Nuri stated that July 20th is the date that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) declared to the whole world that they will not leave Turkish Cypriots for their fate. “With July 20th Operation, Turkish Cypriots came to light from the darkness and gained their freedom,” he said.
Nuri stated that it is the 45th year of the Cyprus Peace Operation carried out by TAF. During those years Turkish military tried to intervention three times by using its guarantor right and managed to be successful on the third attempt.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Nuri pointed out that international organizations and governments shaping the world politics put pressure on Turkey to prevent intervening in Cyprus. Turkish Cypriots has suffered for many years in front of the eyes of the whole world.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri emphasized that Turkish Cypriots were exposed to genocide. "Considering these facts, Turkey's active and actual guarantor and the presence of the Turkish army on the island should never be given up," he said.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Nuri recalled in his statement that all the constitutional rights of the Turkish Cypriots were usurped and treated as a minorities and left to live in misery. He emphasized the importance of understanding those days and placing them in the national consciousness of future generations in order not to repeat past events.
Finally Nuri said, ”We are grateful that Turkey's Prime Minister of that time, Bülent Ecevit, the Founding President Raif Rauf Denktas and combat leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük, male and female warriors, Turkish soldiers, all of our martyrs, who risk their lives and everyone, who continued their struggle about the Turkish Cypriot’s legitimate combat, up to the end.”
