2022-2023 Academic Year Official Opening Ceremony
CIU 2022-2023 Academic Year Official Opening started with the First Lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Necmi İlhan
The 2022-2023 Academic Year Official Opening Ceremony of Cyprus International University (CIU) began with the Inaugural Lecture on “New Trends in Health in a Post-Pandemic World” delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Necmi İlhan, T.R. Ministry of Health Scientific Board member and Gazi University Dean of Faculty of Medicine.
Among those who were present at the 2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Ceremony were Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı, President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), Mr. Mete Boyacı, Chairman of the CIU Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Öztoprak, assistant Chair of the CIU Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, CIU Rector, Vice-Rectors, Faculty members and students.
President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı said in his speech that they had they have made great strides in the field of higher education and that there are graduates of TRNC universities all over the world. Avcı said there are 21 universities that are actively operational in the TRNC, and added Cyprus International University is one of the best and most important institutions of higher education in the region.
Prof. Dr. Avcı stated that the world is changing rapidly and will continue to change, and that the institutional structure of CIU allows it to be a university open to change and by recruiting new
faculty every year strengthens its academic ranks, and with its aspiring vision and mission-oriented research implements many innovations.
At the New Academic Year Opening ceremony, CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Nadiri stated that with the renewed vision and mission of CIU, they were working on student centered projects enabling students to reach knowledge, competency based learning and innovative values, and also increase their career opportunities. Nadiri emphasized the ever-increasing significance of education for a sustainable future, and added “more versatile and high-standard research and teaching models are needed at universities than ever before.” Nadiri also talked about the increasing number of scientific publications which are indicative of the level of scientific studies and research conducted at Cyprus International University. He concluded by wishing everyone a very successful new Academic Year.
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Necmi İlhan who delivered the First Lecture of the 2022-2023 Acedemic Year on “New Trends in Health in a Post-Pandemic World” talked about what everyone experienced during the panemic, and made some suggestions on measures to be taken in health related areas in the post-pandemic world.
Stating that there have been great changes in the field of health as in every other field in the post-pandemic period, İlhan reminded that it is good news that the COVID-19 cases started to decrease, but that new epidemics may also occur in the coming years. İlhan emphasized that in case there is a new epidemic, countries should learn from their experiences with COVID-19 and be prepared for the new one.
Ilhan also metioned the health problems experienced all over the world due to COVID-19, and explained that people's quality of life has decreased due to the pandemic.
Professor Ilhan noted that the concepts of sustainability and flexibility gained great importance after the pandemic, and said that in the globalizing and constantly developing world, those in the field of health by using new technology, should also develop health policies with an understanding of sustainability.
The ceremony ended with CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri presenting a plaque to Prof. Dr. İlhan following his speech and a special occasion photoshoot with the invited guests and participants.
