CIU Continues to Rise in THE World University Rankings

Cyprus International University (CIU) continues its rise in the THE Impact list made by Times Higher Education (THE) which ranks universities on topics such as social responsibility, environmental awareness, contribution to society and human welfare.

CIU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asil Azimli reminded that THE Impact ranking is the only performance listing that evaluates universities according to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, and said, “These 17 areas not only measure research outputs but also seeks to measure if institutions act responsibly toward their stakeholders and the environment.”

Azimli pointed out that a total of 1,591 higher education institutions from 112 countries are included in this list comprised of 17 Development Goals.  CIU is in the 101-200 band in the field of "Responsible Production and Consumption", in the 101-200 band in the field of "Accessible and Clean Energy" use, and in the 301-400 band in the field of "Sustainable Cities and Communities." When it comes to  the field of "Health and Quality Life", CIU is in the 401-600 band and is also included in the 401-600 band in the field of "Partnerships for the Goals."

Stating that universities are also examined in the context of the sub-parameters of these main titles, Azimli said, “Sub-titles include sustainable consumption and production, resource and energy efficiency, promoting sustainable infrastructure, providing access to basic services and green space, use of solar energy resources, and making cities sustainable. He also stated that there are other criteria such as creating career and job opportunities, building resilient societies and economies, studies on reproduction; maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and partnerships with governments, the private sector and civil societies.
Hence, CIU contributes not only to its stakeholders but to the environment as well.”

Azimli pointed out that CIU's quality in education, training and research is increasing day by day, and said, "The improvement in the  quality of education offered at CIU is carried out alongside the concept of sustainability in a way that will benefit all its stakeholders. Being included in the THE Impact list is an indicator of how much work the university is putting into these different categories.”
