CIU Faculty of Communication is ready to welcome
Age of Digitalization Transforms Communication Education
Departments of Journalism, Visual Communication Design, Radio, Television and Cinema, and Public Relations and Advertising of the Faculty of Communication, Cyprus International University (CIU) are ready for the new academic year with the newly designed courses that would allow usage of variety of computer programs as well as application-oriented courses that are in line with the demands on the sector.
CIU Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Hikmet Seçim pointed out that the Faculty is one of the oldest and most well-established units of the University that has received ILAD accreditation, and noted that to meet the requirements of the era has revised its curriculum and continuously updates itself.
In the digital age we live in, with industry 4.0, some changes have occurred and it has now become difficult to take part in the communication sector, Seçim emphasized the importance of media professionals being well-versed in English, use the latest technology, and be knowledgeable in many fields such as politics, economy, culture, art, and sports, in order to access information globally. Seçim also noted that English is the medium of instruction, and with their renewed curriculum they provide students with applied and theoretical knowledge in many different fields.
Prof. Dr. Seçim reminded that the Department of Public Relations and Advertising within the Faculty of Communication has a 5-year accreditation certificate issued by the Communication Research Association (ILAD), and stated that they have initiated the accreditation process for the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema this year.
Underlining that accreditations are of great importance for them, Dr. Seçim said, “Our Faculty has proven its value in the international arena thanks to the qualifications of our instructors, the adequacy of our course programs in line with the demands of the industry, and the richness of laboratory and library resources.”
Prof. Dr. Seçim stated that 70% of the courses in the Faculty are carried out in laboratories, studios and workshops, and said, " It is very important for students in media studies to be able to put theoretical knowledge into practice." He pointed out that for this reason there are two internship programs covering a total of 20 working days in their curricula. Seçim also pointed out that this practical training increases the chances of our students finding jobs.
Dr. Seçim also provided information about the application and admissions process to the Faculty of Communication, stating that TRNC nationals who graduated from TRNC high schools and Turkish citizens who have completed all of their high school education in the TRNC can apply to all programs based on their Student Placement and Scholarship Ranking Exam Results or their diploma grade averages. Candidate students who have GCE A'Level, GCE AS Level, IGCSE-GCSE O'Level exam results have the right to be admitted to all programs.
