CIU Faculty of Engineering Academic Staff win First Prize

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Engineering Academic Staff Assist. Prof. Dr. Neyre Tekbıyık Ersoy and Dr. Ali Şefik won the first prize in an idea competition named "I have an idea for efficient energy, and a strong economy" organized via a collaboration between the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce and Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (COTEA) and the Chamber of Electrical Engineers Gaziantep Branch.

Participating within the competition which was organized as part of the 2021 Southeast Energy Forum, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ersoy and Dr. Şefik won first prize with their project "Mobile Quiz Game for Increasing Knowledge and Awareness in the Field of Energy Efficiency in the Society," following the written and oral jury evaluations.

Advising that energy consumption is increasing on a daily basis across the world, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ersoy went on to state, “The increase in energy consumption creates a problem for both producers and consumers”. Drawing attention to the fact that producers have had to increase their investments in order to produce enough energy, Ersoy informed that the costs of the increased energy production have in turn caused an increase in electricity prices.

In his speech, Dr. Şefik highlighted the importance of more efficient energy consumption and energy production today, and continued, "Therefore, we require new ideas in order to increase energy efficiency."

The awards were presented to the winners at the award ceremony at the 2021 Southeastern Energy Forum.
