CIU Faculty of Medicine is ready to welcome
Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Medicine, fully staffed with outstanding faculty members is ready for the 2022-2023 Academic Year that prioritizes research, generates knowledge, renders public health services, and aims to raise future leaders in the field of medicine.
Dean of the CIU Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Güldal Mehmetçik stated that their biggest goal is to train research oriented physicians with contemporary perspective and who are committed to ethical principles. Dr. Mehmetçik said, "Our aim is to graduate successful medical doctors who can follow the latest technology using the facilities in the newly opened laboratories on campus."
Dean Mehmetçik stated that an integrated system of education is implemented in the CIU Faculty of Medicine and that they provide students with basic medical knowledge in the first two years of their education. Mehmetçik pointed out that unlike other medical faculties, CIU Faculty of Medicine students take the “Basic Clinical Observations training” course during their first two years, and pointed out that this way, the students start their clinical training as of their first year and feel more motivated toward pursuing their profession.
Mehmetçik also stated that the curriculum offers courses like “Study Modules” as of the freshman year to motivate students toward conducting scientific research within the scope of their field of study.
Mehmetçik also said that the scientific projects prepared within the scope of the study modules are coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine professors, adding, "Our students are not only graduates of a medical school, but also have the basic knowledge upon which they can design and carry out scientific projects."
Students enrolled in the CIU Faculty of Medicine, continue the 4th, 5th and 6th years of their education at Başkent University and Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Application and Research Center. Mehmetçik stated that students do their clinical internships in the 4th and 5th semesters.
Mehmetçik emphasized the importance of students doing their internship at Başkent Hospital which is Turkey's leading and most medically advanced hospital, and reminded that students will encounter a wide variety and high number of cases in this hospital, and thus, they will have the opportunity and enjoy the advantage of being an experienced physician.
Giving information about the internships, Mehmetçik said, "Our students will find applications that include bedside training, clinical visits, patient preparation, outpatient clinical visits, observation in the operating room, seminar and article hours, and joint meetings between clinics."
Dean Mehmetçik stated that the students who continue their compulsory clinical internships in the 4th and 5th years and who successfully complete these internships will start working as interns in the 6th year, and reminded that they will graduate as a " Doctor of Medicine" at the end of this period.
Stating that the faculty is equipped with the highest technology training and research laboratories, Mehmetçik stated that in addition to the Clinical Skills Laboratories, students have the opportunity to work in Molecular Medicine, Biochemistry, Neurological Sciences, Cell Culture, Microbiology, Neurophysiology, or Hemodynamics Laboratories.
Mehmetçik stated that TRNC nationals who graduated from high schools in the TRNC and Turkish citizens who have completed their entire high school education in the TRNC can apply to the program based on the “Student Placement and Scholarship Ranking Exam” Results or their diploma grade point averages. Students who have GCE A’Level, GCE AS Level, and IGCSE-GCSE O’Level exam results are also eligible to apply to the program.
