CIU hosted Director of TRT Department of Internal Productions
Within the scope of Cyprus International University (CIU) 6th Career Days and Fair events, Mesut Eker, Director of the Department of Internal Productions of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) met with students.
Giving information to the students about the history and organizational structure of TRT, Eker noted that TRT is Turkey's first and only major public broadcasting institution.
Eker stated that TRT started broadcasting in 1927 with the opening of Istanbul Radio and that the first television broadcasting started in 1964. He also added that they are celebrating their 60th anniversary in television broadcasting this year.
Eker pointed out that they have 17 television channels and 17 radio stations broadcasting in 41 different languages. Eker explained that career opportunities at TRT are not limited to the field of communication, but that they provide employment opportunities in many different fields ranging from human resources to statistical data analysis, from advertising to computer engineering.
Eker also stated that television broadcasting is a field operating on large budgets and is highly competitive and said, “Rating evaluations are followed regularly in television broadcasting. However, as TRT, we do not prepare programs based solely on ratings. Our broadcasting policies are prioritizing the principles of public broadcasting and our responsibilities to the public."
In his speech, Eker reminded that children and the youth were deprived from physical education due to the isolation experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic and stated that TRT filmed 8 thousand lessons and events during this period. Eker also talked about the program contents created for children and said that they worked in cooperation with experts during the preparation of these programs.
Mesut Eker also told the students about the launch of TRT Academy and noted that TRT offers its experiences in broadcasting to students, new graduates, professionals, public and private organizations on a systematic and innovative platform and thereby attempting to be the pioneer in all these areas.
Eker stated that there is a significant digitalization in the field of communication, as in all fields, and said that they have launched the application called TRT Tabi. Noting that TRT Tabi has more than 4 million users, Eker said, “Turkey is in an important position selling TV series to the whole world. In countries where Turkish TV series are broadcast, viewers started using Turkish expressions."
