CIU hosted two international conferences

Cyprus International University, Sakarya University, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa and Kocaeli Health and Technology University jointly organized two Conferences on “International Trends and Issues in Communication & Media” (ITICAM) and “Quality Control in Higher Education” (IQC) on July 13-14, 2023. 

Speaking at the opening of the event, the invited speaker, Kocaeli Health and Technology University Rector Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Elmas noted that rapid technological changes in every field also affect the education and training styles of universities, and said, “The role of technology in higher education is increasing day by day. Digital learning platforms and distance learning options can replace or supplement traditional classroom-based education.”  He drew attention to the fact that ChatGPT and similar artificial intelligence applications are being used in every field, and suggested that some elective courses that are outdated should be reduced and that courses that follow new technologies should instead be added.

At the opening of the event held at the CIU Cevik Uraz Center Conference Hall, CIU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gürkan Doğan expressed his pleasure in hosting two international conferences and noted that these conferences will provide an important platform for discussing new trends in quality in higher education and communication.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilan Çiftçi, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Communication, stated that as Cyprus International University Faculty of Communication, they had a year full of seminars, workshops, technical trips, film screenings, exhibitions, competitions and student personal development activities, and said, “Today, we are closing the  2022-2023 academic year with these two international conferences. We are proud of it.” 

After the opening speeches, the key note speakers Prof. Dr. Douglas Franklin and Prof. Dr. Teresa Franklin from Ohio University, Prof. Dr. Guofang Wan from Loyola University. and Prof. Dr. Susan Copp from George Washington University made their presentations online. 

In addition to the panels that continued for two days in three separate halls at CIU Çevik Uraz Center, workshops were held on Social Media and its Psychological Effects, Internet Safety and Security, Effective Classroom Management, New Trends in Critical Media Literacy, Digital Citizenship and New Trends in Assessment and Evaluation in Education.
