CIU Theatre Club students make thoughtful donation to KTOÖD
Theatre Club students connected to the Cyprus International University (CIU) Student Development and Counseling Center (SDCC), donated the income they received from the theater show they performed named “Alaylı Mizansen”, which they staged within the scope of a social responsibility project, to the Cyprus Turkish Orthopedic Disabled Association (KTOÖD) by donating 4 wheelchairs.
CIU Student Clubs Coordinator Naziyet Uzunboylu pointed out that the students take one-to-one responsibility within the scope of the club activities, and that in this way their sense of responsibility has developed, and that the students learned to act in coordination, sharing and mutual understanding within the scope of team work.
Stating that the student clubs established under the umbrella of SDCC do not only aim to improve the artistic skills of the students, Uzunboylu noted that the students participating in the club activities also develop their social environment with the new friendships they have gained deriving from different disciplines and cultures, enabling them to socialize more easily.
Saying that their aim within the scope of such social responsibility projects is to instill the feeling of being a part of the society, Uzunboylu said, “Our aim is to enable our students to take more courageous steps regarding social problems as well as their academic success”.
Stating that there are more than 40 student clubs within the university within the scope of all kinds of interest areas, including culture, art, science, law and sports, Uzunboylu said that they create an environment for our students to both discover their different potential and socialize through the clubs.
KTOÖD works to ensure the disabled in our country have full participation in life.
KTOÖD President Günay Kibrit stated that they provide all kinds of services and equipment in order to ensure that the disabled people in the country participate in life as individuals, who can stand on their own feet together with the society, and noted that these services and the necessary materials are donations provided by sensitive persons or institutions.
Expressing that they are experiencing a very good example of the responsibilities of universities in shaping, transforming and raising awareness in society, Günay Kibrit said, “I would like to thank all the CIU Theater Club members who worked on this donation campaign and our teachers who raised them so sensitively”.
Kibrit advised that due to the CIU Theater Club, the club members and the instructors sensitive behavior, the donations made to the society were delivered to our disabled friends in need, and expressed their wish to continue an increasing cooperation between KTOÖD and CIU in many areas.
