Cosmetology Technician Program Opens at CIU

Cyprus International University (CIU) School of Applied Sciences, Cosmetology Technician Program will start accepting students in the Fall Semester of the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

Cosmetology Technician Program Director Dr. Vali Gjinali said this will be a three-year program. 

Stating that the term cosmetology (cosmetic science) is a term used all over the world, Gjinali said, "Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatments, including hair care and styling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, and permanent or non-permanent hair removal.”

Dr. Gjinali stated universities in Europe and America have been offering programs in this field for a long time, “However, there are shortcomings in this field both in Turkey and the TRNC. Considering this shortcoming, the program was structured to meet the needs of trainers in professional and educational institutions in the sector. Therefore, there is a high demand for the program.”

Gjinali pointed out that the newly designed Cosmetology technician program is very advantageous for students, and added that students who graduate from the 2-year Hair Care and Beauty Services program have the opportunity to study one more year  and thus have the chance to earn a double diploma.

Dr. Gjinali said the courses offered in the third year will be more comprehensive compared to those taken during the first two years. As a course requirement,  students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on-experience by working at the beauty parlor to be opened on campus which will help them further their skills. 

Since the University will provide the students with the opportunity to practice their profession, the graduates will be considered as highly qualified professionals by the sector. 

Gjinali also said that if the graduates want to continue their career in education, they’ll be educators well equipped with the theoretical knowledge  and professional practice.
