Data Science Undergraduate Program starts accepting student applications at CIU
CIU School of Applied Sciences, the new Undergraduate Program in Data Science has become one of the most prominent professions of the 21st century due to the developing technologies, data processing and storage techniques, will start accepting students for the Fall Semester of the 2022-2023 Academic Year and the Program will be offered in the English language.
Director of the School of Applied Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müesser Nat stated that technology companies around the world are looking for employees who can perform complex analyses in the field of information technologies, and this job definition emerged with the need for people who can meet the emerging demands and can analyze data, and hence it has become one of the most sought-after professions today.
Highlighting the fact that the CIU Data Science Undergraduate Program will be the only one in the TRNC, Nat said, "Our aim is to provide students with the necessary technical and analytical skills to manage, analyze and come up with meaningful conclusions using the data."
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nat pointed out that Data Science is used in every field ranging from health services to politics, and to disaster management, and said, "Data helps businesses to understand and improve their business processes, and thus contributes to saving time and money."
Nat said Data Science undergraduate program integrates theory and practice adding “Data science blends in three different disciplines: Computer Science, Statistics and Mathematics.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nat stated that according to the research results of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of fields covering Data Science skills will increase by 27.9 percent in the next 5 years. Dr. Nat also said the data science market is expected to rise from 95.3 billion dollars which was the figure recorded in 2021 to 322.9 billion dollars by 2026.
Approximately 80 percent of companies worldwide dedicate a large portion of their earnings to create a productive data analytics department. Nat added that these companies hire the smartest people in the industry.
