English is a must in career planning

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yavuz, the Director of School of Foreign Languages, Cyprus International University (CIU) emphasized the importance of learning a second language, especially English, "English is the most widely used language in international, political and economic relations, education and international communication".

Stating that knowing English makes it easier to find a job, Yavuz said, "If you speak a foreign language, you can find a job more easily and progress faster in your career".

Knowing English also plays an important role in academic success, also, having access to foreign sources and being aware of the studies is very important in today's world.

Adding that online communication has become widespread with the COVID-19 pandemic, Yavuz also reminded that the Internet language is English.

Prof. Dr. Yavuz also gave information about effective English learning methods and stated that learning requires effort, and having an important reason to make an effort will motivate learners.

Communication in English will make it easier for us to learn English and in this way of learning, the retention of language items will be enhanced.

It was noted that listening and reading activities in a foreign language will facilitate language learning, give rise to the retention of language units, and increase vocabulary.

Underlining that everyone can learn a foreign language, Yavuz said, “However, everyone does not have the same learning style. Not everyone can learn a language ​​in the same way. Some learn a language quickly because they use strategies appropriate to their learning styles. Those, who are not aware of their learning styles, will have difficulties in learning a language".

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Yavuz said that the CIU School of Foreign Languages ​​updated its curriculum considering all of these, and noted that English teaching on digital platforms was carried out in this direction.
