Graduates were bid farewell with a ceremony
At the ceremony held at Cyprus International University (CIU) Performance Arts Show Center, 2021-2022 Academic Year graduates received their diplomas. 1627 graduates who were entitled to graduate from associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs experienced the joy and pride of receiving their diplomas and graduating.
Those present at the ceremony were TRNC President Ersin Tatar, Minister of National Education and Culture Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Labor and Social Security Hasan Taçoy, President of the Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council of Higher Education (YÖDAK) Turgay Avcı, CIU President of the Board of Trustees Mete Boyacı, CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, CIU Administrative staff, Academics, Families of the graduating students and Graduates.
In his speech at the graduation ceremony, President Ersin Tatar wished success to all the graduates and noted that the real test in life has just begun, and reminded the graduates of the significance of fighting against all difficulties they may encounter in life. In his speech, Tatar expressed that he is sure and confident that all the graduates received top quality education and that the knowledge and skills they are equipped with are very valuable, and asked the graduates to work hard and to be beneficial to and be at the service of humanity.
Tatar told the graduates that it is important not only to be well educated but also to be able act as responsible individuals. Tatar, to conclude said, he would expect them to be sensitivite about their environment.
In his speech, the TRNC Minister of National Education and Culture Nazım Çavuşoğlu noted that the TRNC is a student island; academics from all over the world meet on the island, and universities thus pave the way for students from more than 100 countries to come to receive their education.
He pointed out the advantages of graduating from universities in the TRNC which are namely the multicultural environment and the opportunity to learn from scholars from different countries. Çavuşoğlu said, “Make sure you refer to the TRNC as an example in the countries you visit. Reference friendship, brotherhood, peace, democracy and freedoms as examples. We are working really hard to achieve and maintain these in our country."
YODAK President Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı congratulated the graduates in his speech; he expressed his pleasure to be at the graduation ceremony of CIU, which has achieved world standards and quality.
Reminding that the motivation of many students had decreased due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Avcı stated that CIU management and academic staff have performed beyond praise during these difficult days.
Prof. Dr. Avcı also addressed the graduates in his speech: “Dear graduates, the goals you set forth for yourself 4-5 years ago are coming true tonight. But tomorrow morning you need to think of new goals. A new world, a new future. May your path be clear.”
CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Nadiri stated that CIU has been continuing its education and training activities in the field of higher education for 25 years and said, "We continue to move forward with the experience we have gained, and without compromising on quality, with our innovative perspective.” Nadiri pointed out that 1627 students from 43 different countries will be graduating this year, and added “with our new graduates, our total number of graduates will exceed 22 thousand."
Nadiri said that their goal is to raise individuals who can compete with the world and are experts in their fields. "With our new mission and vision we have created in this direction, we offer our students the best educational opportunities with our student-centered education and our understanding of learning focused on independent learning."
Addressing the graduates in his speech, Nadiri said, “Today you have completed an important phase of your life, you are on the eve of a new beginning. The education you receive at CIU provides you with the necessary knowledge and experience to be successful. You have the potential and ability to reach your goals.”
Following the speeches of Mehmet Ali Taşezen and Jennifer Onyeka Chimeh, the top students of their respective faculties, a symbolic tree was planted on behalf of the graduates of the 2021-2022 Academic Year.
Diplomas were presented after awards were given to the top-ranking graduates. The ceremony ended with the cap throwing ceremony and a fireworks show.
