Healthcare Conference Series organized at CIU

Faculty of Pharmacy of Cyprus International University (CIU) organized Healthcare Conference series. 
The event moderated by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aslan Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy took place in the Conference Hall of CIU Çevik Uraz Center, the speakers were Prof. Dr. Gülçin Sağdıçoğlu Celep, Director of Health Sciences Institute and Prof. Dr. Aysel Berkkan, Assistant Director of Health Sciences Institute of Gazi University.

Following Aslan’s opening speech, Celep emphasized the importance of healthcare conferences in student development in her presentation entitled "The Role of Antioxidants in Preventive Medicine", and stated that oxidative stress is the most important factor in the formation of cardiovascular, cancer and other chronic diseases. She explained how biological molecules are damaged as a result of oxidative stress. As a result, she noted, cells lose their functions.

Making suggestions to prevent this from happening, Celep explained the importance of healthy nutrition and stated that consuming foods containing antioxidants has an active role in combating the formation of such diseases.

In her presentation titled “Doping Control Process,” Berkkan referred to the history of doping and its role in sports, and gave information about the chemicals banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and their possible side effects.

In her speech, Berkkan also focused on anabolic steroids and mentioned the effects of such banned substances on the performance of athletes and the health problems faced by the athletes who use them.

Berkkan also explained at the event how the doping tests determined by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) were applied to the athletes and how samples were treated. 

The event ended with the Q & A session and plaques were presented to Celep and Berkkan by Aslan in appreciation of their contributions.
