Master Theater Actor Ali Düşenkalkar met with CIU students
The Theatre Club of the Social Activity and Student Club Coordinator affiliated with the CIU Student Development and Counselling Center, organized a talk where famous theatre actor and director Ali Düşenkalkar met with students.
Following the talk which was organized at the Levent Kindergarten, the CIU Theatre Club staged the one-act theatre play “Resevoir Poodles” of the absurd comedy genre, which played for the first time after a long hiatus due to the pandemic.
Advising during the talk that he was born and raised in the TRNC, Ali Düşenkalkar went on to say, “Theatrical activities were limited until the universities were established. Investment in the theatre increased via the activities organized by the Nicosia Municipality, and more attention was paid to the actors”.
Düşenkalkar explained that he has given courses for years and has over 2500 students, and went on to state, “My teaching side of theatre has never ceased. In theatre, teaching never ends and neither does explaining it”.
Drawing attention to the fact that the development of acting is based completely on the master-apprentice relationship, Düşenkalkar advised, “There is no magic pill for acting, if there was, we could treat it with 10mg pills that we got from the pharmacy. Acting is like an elongating chain via the sharing of experiences”.
Highlighting the problems experienced by students within the university process, who try to make it to theatre and to rehearsals during their spare time, Düşenkalkar provided emphasis upon the theater club students and stated that individuals who contribute in this way should be applauded, and that he had watched a very stylish play.
Noting that despite retiring from state theater 1.5 years ago, he continues to think about theater, Ali Düşenkalkar concluded, "Theater is a rebellion, theater is anarchist, doing theater requires an appetite, you must put up with yourself twice to do theater”.
