New Generation Communication Specialists Graduating from CIU Faculty of Communication

CIU) Faculty of Communication and currently working as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Corporate Communications Coordinator, gave information to future communicators about her post-graduation experiences and the recruitment process.

Demirkıran was the invited speaker at the conference on “Life and Work After Graduation” organized by CIU Alumni Communication and Career Center, where she stated that we are going through a transformation defined as the age of information and communication and said, “It is very important to bring a new breath and dynamism into communication education. At CIU, students are offered an academic environment where they can develop themselves freely and graduate as the new generation of communication specialists.”

Özlem Demirkıran said she worked in many different departments before she started working as the Communications Coordinator at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. She emphasized the importance of communication emerged once again with the developments experienced in the last few years around the world, adding that knowledge acquired in the courses is invaluable; however, the only reality in the communication sector is to have prior experience. She stated that an internship is of great importance for gaining on the job experience.

Demirkıran pointed out the importance of extracurricular activities that students actively participate in during their education that help develops their intellectual knowledge and skills required by the rapidly transforming communication environment. Participation in these activities is an added value as Certificates obtained from the extracurricular activities are factors that serve as assets in the job application process."

Demirkıran also talked about the key points in preparing the CV and stated that photographs should be attached to the CVs because employers first look at the photo and then read the CV.

Demirkıran also drew attention to the benefits of using Kariyer net and Linkedin platforms for internship or job applications and informed the students about the questions that can be asked in the job interview.
