Serious decrease in the Tourism sector

Cyprus International University (CIU) School of Tourism and Hotel Management Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludağ stated that the situation created by the pandemic negatively affected the supply and demand during the tourism season of 2020, as per the scope of different scenarios projected by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uludağ stated that according to recent studies, arrivals of international tourists on a global scale is to decline between 60% and 80% this year.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uludağ pointed out that according to UNWTO research, from the end of 2020 the data estimates that a loss of income between 910 billion and 1.2 trillion dollars (USA) is projected in tourism exports, and as a result drew attention to the risk of job loss between 100 and 120 million.

Economic Preventions

Expressing that important doctrines were obtained from the leaders of the sector in his scientific study covering the Sector Views for the Cyprus International University School of Tourism and Hotel Management, Uludağ continued as follows: Among the information reflected by the sector, economic measures take the first place. Within the scope of economic measures, a consensus has been reached on the provision of reduction costs, tax and fee moratoriums and liquidity.

Pointing out that opinions were also expressed about new management models in the study, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uludağ said, "Digitation and security-enhancing measures are at the forefront in this management concept."
