The Societies education needs has been supported by the National Education Foundation for 40 years

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Education Academic Staff Assist. Prof. Dr. Bengü Berkmen, in a statement made as part of the anniversary of the establishment of the National Education Foundation, advised that since the day it was established, the Foundation has provided scholarships to almost 2700 students, additionally enabling almost 2000 students to receive boarded education.

Reminding that the establishment of the National Education Foundation on the 19th of February 1981 was pioneered by important academicians, the state and businessmen, Assist. Prof. Dr. Berkmen noted that the aim was to meet the societies education and teaching needs economically, socially, and culturally in terms of quality and quantity, while also contributing materially and morally.

Stating that via the foundation, the collection of donations has begun, Berkmen added that the donations collected are then organized and utilized to meet the citizens educational needs.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Berkmen noted that as well as the scholarship support provided by the foundation to the students, they have also had student dormitories built, which they transferred to the Ministry of National Education, while additionally displaying efforts in establishing libraries and laboratories in schools.

Pointing out that during its 40-year period, the Foundation has provided a great support to the country in every education related field, Berkmen went on to say, "not only has the Foundation succeeded in being a well-established institution in meeting the educational needs of the country, but has also played a major role in making the children and young people, who are our future, individuals beneficial to their country".

Stating that the National Education Foundation base themselves on Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's motto "The real guidance is science", Berkmen went on to advise that the organization believes that individuals can be raised with "free opinion, free wisdom, free conscience", via the means of reason and science.

Advising that the approach of the National Education Foundation is that everyone can be competent to the extent of their interests, desires and abilities, should the opportunity be provided, and the favorable conditions created, this would establish them as elite members of the modern world.
