“Sustainability”: main theme of Teacher's Day
“Sustainability is to leave a cleaner, greener and more beautiful world to future generations”
Gifts produced from recycled materials within the scope of the "Students for a Sustainable Campus Project (SSC)" were presented to high school teachers teaching in Nicosia on the occasion of November 24th Teachers' Day by Cyprus International University (CIU) Promotion Office.
CIU Board of Trustees Promotion and International Relations Chief Advisor Prof. Dr. Majid Hashemipour stated that the gifts created should not be viewed as a simple product or examples of handicraft, but that these paper concrete pots made from waste-paper should be considered as examples of sustainability.
Emphasizing that the university cares about sustainable campus projects, Hashemipour said, “We will always be proud to take a step towards sustainability and continue to raise awareness for a sustainable world.”
Director of the Promotion Office Neslihan Kula stated that they are happy to celebrate the 94th Anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s, the founder of the Turkish Republic, being proclaimed as the Head Master of National Schools, and since 1981, November 24th has been celebrated as the Teachers' Day. She stated that they decided to prepare the said packages so that the students, trained by teachers who are the architects of the future, will receive an education to help improve themselves intertwined with the concept of sustainability.
Noting that they implemented the “Students for a Sustainable Campus Project” (SSC) to leave a better world for future generations, Kula said, “Our project has developed with the intense desire and efforts of our students volunteering to contribute. We care about sustainability in order to leave a more livable world to future generations.”
