“Sustainable projects” discussed at CIU

Cyprus International University (CIU) Board of Trustees Chief Advisor Prof. Dr. Majid Hashemipour met with the Sedat Simavi Industrial and Vocational School students who won first place at the TECHNOFEST 2022 Inter high-school Electric Cars Efficiency Challenge Competition and exchanged ideas with the students on sustainable projects. 

Prof. Dr. Hashemipour said these students won first place with their car “ILKE” in the International Efficiency Challenge of Electric Cars Race organized by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)  and also at the Inter high-school Electric Cars Efficiency Challenge Race. Dr. Hashemipour said he congratulated the Sedat Simavi Industrial and Vocational School principal Çiğeltem Arifoğlu for their ongoing efforts on sustainable projects, the teachers who supported this project as well as the students who deserved to get this award.

A total of 68 teams raced at  TECHNOFEST 2022 and ILKE ranked first among 32 vehicles in technical checks by consuming 1075 watt hours in 20 rounds, and hence the vehicle was elected as the most efficient car based on the competition rules.

Hashemipour told the Sedat Simavi Industrial and Vocational School students at the meeting that CIU will support all their activities regarding sustainability and emphasized the significance CIU attaches to sustainability projects.

Dr. Hashemipour also said CIU ranked 111th University in the 2021 UI GreenMetric World University rankings; and added there is a café called “We are Nature” on campus in an area labeled as Plastic Free Zone (PFZ). 

In his speech, Hashemipour said, “As an educational institution that attaches importance to sustainability studies, the award that these students have been given as a result of their efforts in the field of technology has made us feel proud. As CIU, we are ready to support these students in future competitions.”
