Web of Science offers many browsing opportunies

Cyprus International University (CIU) Library Directorate organized an online training on Conducting Safe Research Using the Web of Science Core Collection for Master and Doctoral students and academics.

Derya Soğuksu, a solution consultant at Clarivate, provided information about the history of the Web of Science and the databases to the participants at the seminar.
Stating that there are many databases within the scope of the Web of Science platform, Soğuksu noted that the Web of Science Core Collection has been in publication since 1964, and it has been available to universities since 1980.

Derya Soğuksu also gave information about how the citation search engine is used and said that “the Web of Science was established to assist graduate students and academics conducting scientific studies as part of their research processes.”

Noting that there are many different browsing opportunities on the Web of Science, Soğuksu explained that the search engine not only provides citation indexes to the researcher in the web environment but also provides information about who researched which subjects before.

Stating that the Web of Science Core Collection consists of a total of four journal indexes, Soğuksu mentioned that the main indexes are Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Art and Humanities Citation Index, and Emerging Sources Citation Index, which is also a journal index along with the other indexes.

After informing the participants, Derya Soğuksu explained how the keywords should be selected and provided a demonstration.

Making comparisons and analyses of the data during the training, Soğuksu noted that there are 254 research areas on the Web of Science, and there is more equality in comprehensive studies.
