World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day
Cyprus International University joins the global health community on World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, highlighting the critical need for increased attention and resources to combat these devastating diseases that affect 1.7 billion people worldwide.
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), which include lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis and trachoma, continue to challenge public health, particularly in low-income areas. Despite causing significant long-term physical disability and social stigma that leads to labelling the affected, these diseases often receive less attention than other global health problems.
“Neglected Tropical Diseases are a major obstacle to achieving universal health and we must continue to work together to ensure that these diseases are not ignored,” said Professor Dr. Ayşegül Taylan Özkan, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Cyprus International University.
The CIU Faculty of Medicine actively supports global efforts to combat NTDs through research, education, and public health initiatives. The University encourages medical schools, research institutions and global health organizations to participate in collaborative efforts and advocacy to accelerate progress toward eradicating these diseases.
